JCI (Ghana) Ltd. was a subsidiary company of Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Co. Ltd. and its successors JCI Ltd. and Western Areas Ltd. Along with associated company Barnex (Ghana) Ltd., it carried out exploration work on a number of gold exploration properties in Ghana, ranging from very early-stage, grass-roots exploration projects, to relatively advanced projects over an operating gold mine like Prestea, in Ghana’s Western Region.
I was Manager: Exploration (West Africa) from January 1995 to April 2001, when Western Areas discontinued operations in Ghana. During this time, annual exploration budgets ranged from around US$700,000 to a maximum of some US$7,5 million.
