From late 1984 to mid-1987, I was employed by Gencor (earlier General Mining Union Corporation) based in Springs, South Africa, where I was involved in conglomerate-hosted Witwatersrand gold exploration programmes. Furthermore, I helped select, install and implement PC hardware and software in the Gencor group’s Regional Exploration Offices. A number of computer programs were developed for technical and administrive use. Staff trainings were conducted on these topics.
From the beginning of 1982 to September 1984, I was employed by General Mining Union Corporation and carried out regional mineral exploration (mostly for base metals and minerals) in and around the Bushveld Igneous Complex and the Limpopo Mobile Complex, South Africa. Based in Potgietersrus (now renamed Makopane), I spent a lot of time in the field, using aerophotographical and field geological mapping, geochemical and geophysical techniques.
