Contracted by Swedish Geological AB (SGAB), I participated in the Strategic Assessment of the Mining Sector project, carried out in Ethiopia for a donor group led by the World Bank, investigating and reporting on issues surrounding the mining sector in this East African country. The project necessarily covers a very wide spectrum, and reviewed a large amount of information that is already in the public domain. Testing and confirmation of this information, among others by interviewing the various stakeholders, helped inform recommendations that have been requested by the donor group.
This project was particularly interesting seen against the background of a country with prospective geology, and with a small but rapidly growing exploration and mining industry.
SGAB partnered with the Swedish firm RMG and the Ethiopian consulting firm Iris Consult for this project.
